ABOUT THIS SITE

Have you, like many people, been dragged kicking and screaming into the electronic age? Are you unsure whether the World Wide Web is just hype, or whether the Internet could make an important contribution to your work? Are you about to dabble with this kind of technology for the first time? This site was originally created to form part of my MA dissertation on Social Work and the Internet. It is aimed specifically at students of social work and qualified social work technophobes in the UK, who may initially find the wealth of information available overwhelming and daunting.

I first used the Internet in 1993 during my degree in Psychology. I am currently working with offenders and have a particular interest in mental health problems and drug and alcohol misuse. I have found the Internet useful and helpful in many ways. It has allowed me to contact colleagues working in a variety of fields worldwide. It has also facilitated speedy access to support, information and research. However, a frequently encountered problem is that the search results of general search engines will primarily produce thousands of non-UK based links. In an attempt to cater for those people who are looking for more local sites, the majority of links on this site will direct you to UK organisations and resources.

Despite having used the Internet myself for the past few years I am new to web page design etc. Any feedback, comments or suggestions will be much appreciated. You can e-mail me by clicking here, or use the online form here if you don't have an e-mail program.
