[Al-Anon-Alateen] - US site. AA/Alateen are based on the 12-step / Minnesota Model, their aims are to help families and friends of alcoholics recover from the effects of living with the problem drinking of a relative or friend. Alateen is the equivalent recovery program for young people.
[Alcohol Concern] - UK National agency on alcohol misuse, working to reduce the costs of alcohol misuse and to develop the range and quality of helping services available to problem drinkers and their families throughout England and Wales. A great site with access to factsheets, an on-line book shop, lists of useful addresses, links etc.
[Alcohol Counselling & Prevention Services] - Based in Brixton, ACAPS aim to provide services to people with drink problems and their partners and relatives. They also provide education, training and consultancy to lay and professional workers who are likely to encounter people with drink problems in the course of their work.
[Alcoholics Anonymous] - UK AA home page providing a clickable map of the British Isles for information on local groups, information to professionals who are thinking of referring a client, AA fact file, "is AA for you" etc.
[Drug & Alcohol Services For Wales] - Extensive list of contacts of alcohol and drug services in Wales provided by the Welsh Drug & Alcohol Unit.
[Institute of Alcohol Studies] - Based in St. Ives, the IAS aims to increase the knowledge of alcohol and the social and health consequences of its' misuse. They provide access to factsheets, papers, publications, further links and a listserv.
[Medical Council on Alcoholism] - Based in London, the MCA aim to improve medical understanding of alcohol related problems. They also publish the journal 'Alcohol and Alcoholism' and a newsletter called 'Alcoholism'.
[National Association for Children of Alcoholics] - US site. NACoA are an organization working on behalf of children of alcoholics. Their mission is to advocate for all children and families affected by alcoholism and other drug dependencies.
[Staffordshire Alcohol Advisory Service] - Based in Staffordshire, SAAS offer free and confidential counselling, advise and information service for anyone affected by their own or someone else's drinking. They aim to encourage adoption of non harmful behaviour patterns towards alcohol use and to help prevent harmful patterns developing.
