Mailng List Information
E-mail (mailing lists) : A mailing list is a way of having a group discussion by electronic mail and distributing announcements to a large number of people. Discussions on mailing lists are like everyday conversations, the only difference being that any question you ask or opnion you express will be mailed to all the people on that list.
To join a mailing list you will have to send an e-mail to an automated listserver. The addresses of these listerservers are usually identifiable by a 'majordomo@' or 'listserv@' in the E-mail address. To join ('subscribe') to these mailing lists you will have to send a message, usually with 'subscribe xxxx' in the message body of the E-mail, where xxxx is the name of the list (unless told otherwise, do not enter a 'subject' for your E-mail to these listservers as this may stop the subscription process). Most mailing lists are free of charge.
Once you have sent your 'subscribe' message, you will shortly receive an E-mail with the rules and regulations of that list (often called an FAQ - frequently asked questions). You will then be given another E-mail address which will allow you to coverse with other people on the mailing list. Read this message carefully and store it in a safe place as this will contain help on how to 'unsubscribe' from the list and other useful information.
